Bartitsu Compendium, Volume2: Antagonistics
Bartitsu Compendium, Volume2: Antagonistics
IN 1899, E.W. Barton-Wright introduced the martial art of Bartitsu as a process of cross-training. It introduced jujitsu to Europe and combined it with boxing, savate and stick fighting with the walking stick to create possibly the first mixed martial arts system. The art was designed for self defense against the fearsome street gangsters of Edwardian London.
Volume II also offers an extensive collection of long-forgotten newspaper and magazine articles on Bartitsu exhibitions and contests; original articles on Bartitsu history and training; a complete course of Edwardian-era "physical culture" exercises; personality profiles, essays and more. This volume provides valuable additional resources towards continuing Barton-Wright's experiments in self defense.
